George Mason University

George Mason University, Counseling and Psychological Services Department (Fairfax County, VA).  May 16, 2016 – June 2, 2017. Full time Mental Health Counselor.  Manage a caseload of approximately 18 clients per week.  Primary responsibilities include completing personal consultations (intakes) and providing short-term counseling services to college students, graduate students, and faculty/staff.  Contribute to staff meetings, assist in implementing programming, engage in outreach opportunities, assist in the supervision and training of interns and externs, and promote awareness of mental health concerns with students, faculty/staff, and parents.  Serve in an on-call rotation, 1 a day a week in the office and after hours 3 weeks per semester.  Regularly provide crisis counseling and perform risk assessments.  Collaborate with other campus services including Student Health Services, Office of Disability Services, Office of Student Support, Learning Services, Career Services, and Wellness, Alcohol, and Violence Education and Services (WAVES) to best help clients.

The Women’s Center (Vienna, VA). December 2011- February 2015 (Part-time).  Intake Supervisor providing training and supervision to master and doctoral degree students (15-20) in setting up clients with mental health services and providing information on additional resources (financial consultations, attorney referrals, and domestic violence services).  Scheduled appointments with clients using insurance.  Responsible for coordinating room schedules for therapists, greeting walk-in clients and providing them various services, and assisting the billing office in financial discrepancies.  Assisted in coordinating day-to-day operations of the facility, provided leadership to staff, and assisted in networking with the community and outside agencies.  Coordinated counseling services at the Alexandria and Annandale NOVA community college campuses through the NOVA Access Hope Program.

Artemis House

Artemis House (Fairfax County, VA). August 2014- February 2016 (Part-time). Child/Teen Therapist serving two afternoon/evening shifts a week at a domestic violence shelter, working with children and teen - ages 3 and up.  Assist the children and teenagers in adjusting to life in a domestic violence shelter and focus on: identifying emotions, emotion regulation, school issues, learning disorders, anger management skills, grief & loss, trauma work, and additional age related concerns that may arise (ex. bullying, ADHD).  As a male child/teen therapist, utilize therapeutic techniques to model positive behaviors for the male clients and help female clients better relate to a caring adult of the opposite sex (especially after the traumatic DV situations they have witnessed and experienced within their families).  Additionally, provide consultations to parents on how to help their child/teen.

PRACTICUM & INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCES

The Women's Center

Internship at The Women's Center in Vienna, VA. January 2011 - August 2011.  Responsibilities included audio/video taping with clients on an individual basis, managing a caseload of 6-8 clients a week, completing treatment plans, making referrals for additional resources, and receiving weekly supervision (individual and group) from Licensed Professional Counselors.  As an intern, provided opportunity to do couples counseling, group counseling, family counseling, individual counseling, and work with children/adolescents.  Began to develop my own theoretical approach working with clients, including a mixture of narrative therapy, mindfulness, and CBT.

Practicum at Vanguard Services Unlimited in Arlington, VA.  Aug. 2010 - Dec. 2010.  Responsibilities include completing client intake interviews, audio/video taping with clients on an individual basis, charting in client records, and observing/participating in primary group meetings (10 clients) within a group counseling setting.  As an intern, provided opportunities to attend AA/NA meetings, become familiarized with symptoms of substance abuse and withdrawal experienced by clients, monitor client progress with addiction, and utilize a cognitive behavioral theoretical approach in working with clients struggling with substance abuse concerns (agency philosophy).
